Dear Alumni,
I hope you are well and both 2023 and the Year of the Rabbit are treating you and your loved ones well so far. We are in Week 5 of our new school year and as always, wonder where the time went.
As the new year kicks off in earnest we have a number of groups and projects in motion that would benefit greatly from some alumni support, expertise and input. We have listed all the opportunities below and if you are able to join or support any of them please let us know via this Alumni Volunteering form.
You will notice that some of the opportunities have specific deadlines and dates attached to them whilst others are ongoing and open ended, hopefully there is something for everyone!

Annual Law Conference - March 4th 2023
One of the main components of the SJII LawCon is the ‘Mock Trial’ competition. We would be honoured to have alumni willing to take on the role of the adjudicators within the mock trial rooms! Your role would include judging the arguments made by both the prosecution and defence; this includes considering factors like following of procedure (ie. referring to the court in proper terms), strength of rebuttals, and more. Plus, if you are willing, we could have a short 10 minute address about your work with the law.

Grade 10 International Women's Day
(tentative date - 15th March 2023)
Do you work in tech? Are you a digital strategist? Perhaps an influencer or have taken the leap to tech up your business/work? The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is: “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” The United Nations Observance of IWD recognises and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.
Ms. Coe, Head of Grade 10, would like to extend an invitation to women in our Alumni community and preferably (but not necessarily) work within the realms of technology, to come and speak to our G10 cohort. This will be an informal chat, Q&A style forum. Speakers might like to prepare a short summary of: their personal/academic journey to their current role, previous working experience, challenges in their field (or country), professional or personal achievements. Ideally it would be during our G10 pastoral time, which is from 8:30-9:00, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday 15th March at school.

STEM Club
A few students have started a STEM Club CCA to give younger students interested in STEM a place to expand their knowledge and become more passionate about this field. They would like alumni already working in STEM come into school and host short talks or demonstrate fun experiments to get students interested.

Sustainability Initiative
As an associate to the Senior Leadership Team this year, Mr Nick Lane (Geography teacher) is in the process of consulting with our community - student, staff, parents, alumni, community partners - to establish what we think about when we refer to the concept of Sustainability. He will also conduct an impact analysis and then design an action plan for implementation from 2024 onwards. By collecting data, storytelling success stories, and modelling sustainable practice he can garner the support needed to move SJII into a Greener direction.

Supporting CCAs at the School
We need some help in supporting some of our most important CCAs (such as Debate and World Scholars Cup) in the High School - can you help? We would love to hear from any alumni who might be free to support these initiatives in school on a weekly basis (even if it’s just for a few weeks or months).

Please do get in touch if you plan to see us.
Don’t forget to sign up here for some of the current opportunities and thank you very much for volunteering your time and expertise.
That you continue to live our Lasallian mission means so very much to our community.
