Dhanesh Thiru ('14), President
My journey with SJI International first started in 2009 when I entered the school. I still remember when the school was only confined to the T, F and Science blocks – and look at where we are now! Before I knew it, it was 2014 and I had graduated. I moved on to study Biomedical Sciences at NUS, where I am today.
I believe I was blessed to receive an education with SJII. SJII provided a platform for me to organise service events and trips with like-minded individuals who broadened my perspectives and understanding of the world. It enabled me to take on leadership roles to lead teams that challenged me and changed the way I worked in groups. I was part of a fantastic football team that beat the Monday blues by training together as one. And, most importantly, SJII has given me the lifelong friends (seniors, juniors & batch-mates) who constantly support, guide and look out for me even till this day.
It is with this that I wish to extend what I have experienced to the whole of the Alumni community. There are thousands of such wonderful memories within each of us, and hundreds of stories we have kept close to our hearts. Although we are no longer students at SJII, our journey with the school and its community still continues.
As such, the Alumni Association, along with the Advancement & Communications Office (ACO), aims to integrate and bring alumni together with SJII student community. We have a variety of events planned for us to gather and grow and there will be many outlets to give back to the SJII community. I do hope through the opportunities provided and events planned, you will be able to participate and contribute in your own way. I believe our alumni community will continue to grow closer and stronger. I look forward to meeting all of you at our future events.

Coming from the pioneer batch, I have seen our school grow from a small cosy building (currently occupied by the elementary school) to a big and bustling campus with facilities such as swimming pool, indoor sports hall, and more importantly, students who are proud to be part of the Josephian family.
Now as we enter a new chapter of our lives, our goal, as part of the Advancement & Communications Office (ACO), is to bring our alumni together, to form the bridge between the alumni and the whole SJII community.
As a student myself, I have experienced how SJII has enriched my life and also transformed others into better individuals. From daily prayer in morning assemblies, weekly service with our local communities, travelling overseas for challenge week and yearly expeditions, and many more. School was more than just studying to me, it was filled with friends, CCAs, and a time to grow as a person. I recalled that there was a period in SJII whereby I had 7 CCAs! After leaving SJII, the communities and life lessons still stick with me during my university years in the National University of Singapore as a business student. Now I’ve just graduated and am currently running my own business.
I am sure every one of you had great takeaways from your time in our school so here’s my challenge for you. As SJII has shaped you, It is now your turn to shape the future of the alumni association. The ACO will be organizing various events for us to gather and grow our community. These events will also provide opportunities for us to give back to our school through various forms. I hope to see and know all of you soon. Stay driven in what you do and never forget we entered to learn but we leave to serve.
