For this year's Service Learning Week, our current SJI International students had the honour of meeting two incredible alumni, Hilda Foo and Savita Kumar! 🎓🙌

Hilda, who volunteered at the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and Canossian School as part of her CAS requirement, shared her journey of making a difference. Savita, now a Social Work Associate, dedicates her time to helping youths with mental health needs. 🧠💙

Both alumni have been actively involved in impactful service work since graduating, and they took the time to share inspiring stories about the power of giving back to the community. They reminded us how the values instilled during school continue to shape their personal and professional journeys.

You, as Alumni, play a vital role in shaping the future of the SJI International community. Here’s some inspiration from Savita and Hilda to encourage more alumni to return to campus and give back to our community:

Savita: I’m very glad to have continued to serve beyond SJI International, both personally as a volunteer and professionally in my job roles. It has opened me up to the different worlds of others and helped me to understand the truth of an issue but also the person behind that. This is something that has made a profound impact on my life and I hoped that in participating, I would be able to elaborate more on how it has impacted me and hopefully inspire others even a little bit to continue to serve beyond SJI International too. 

Hilda: Service was always important because I knew that it was worth it to spend time on others instead of on just myself - it made me feel like it was a day well lived! 

Advocating for others in need was also part of my make-up. I just naturally felt indignant that someone else was struggling alot, and I felt that speaking up was just a small act on my part.

By returning to campus and giving back, our SJI International alumni can help create lasting change and continue to inspire our students. Whether through volunteering, mentorship, or sharing experiences, your involvement makes a difference. As the year progresses, our Alumni will have many more opportunities to give back to our community and we hope to see you then!
