Message from the President of the SJI International Alumni Association

Hi everyone! I am Yan Jun, the SJI International Alumni Association’s incoming
President. I am very grateful for the opportunity to give back to the school community
what it has given to me, and I would like to take this occasion to introduce myself.

Having graduated from SJI International in 2021, I have just completed my National
Service in January of 2024, and I am currently in my first year of reading Law at the
National University of Singapore. Prior to the commencement of my studies, I was
working part-time as an Emergency Medical Technician contracted by the Singapore
Civil Defence Force to respond to 995 emergency calls. Before that, I served my
National Service as both a Combat Medic in the Army’s Guards Formation and a Level 2
Emergency Medical Technician in the SCDF.

In my free time, I love playing both contact and touch rugby, where I am currently
actively involved in university, playing the cello, and of course in keeping with the latest
trends, running (very slowly).

Looking back at my time in SJI International, albeit a short three years, I would describe
it as the most formative years of my education and character development. It was
where I found my love for the game of Rugby, where I matured as a musician and most
importantly where I grew as a student and member of society. I fondly remember the
ACSIS Rugby season where I played Rugby for the first time, performing in the Bach in
Black series as well as the countless memories made with my peers and teachers.

I have decided to volunteer with the SJI International Alumni Association because I
believe that I would not be where I am today without the school, and I want to give back
to the community in whatever way possible. The motto ‘Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve’
has also made a huge impact in my life post-graduation, which is why I strongly believe
in giving back to the school community.

I see the Alumni Association as a large family, and I hope to continue this tradition of
support for one another. In this post-pandemic era, my wish is to strengthen the school
and Lasallian spirit within our Alumni base, uniting the multiple alumni communities
around the world. I am looking forward to organizing, alongside the rest of the Alumni
Association Exco Committee as well as the ACO, the many events and activities for the
alumni to participate in.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via Instagram, Linkedin or the Alumni portal
should you have any suggestions for the alumni, or if you just want some advice and
support.

Cheers and see you all soon!
Yan Jun
