On Thursday 24 Sept the class of 2020 attended a 'Welcome to the Alumni Community' event in their individual tutor group rooms.  In about 9 weeks this year's seniors will become the newest members of the SJII alumni community, so the alumni office took the opportunity to begin sharing with the class important information about the alumni association, it's programmes and benefits.

Dhanesh Thiru '14, the Alumni Association President opened the event with some recorded remarks about the alumni association programme, and then answered questions seniors had sent in about the programme and benefits.

Following his remarks Mrs Lauri Coulter, from the alumni office, shared that the main benefits of being part of the alumni association are that:

  • You can stay connected with fellow alumni
  • You can find mentors internships and jobs
  • You can get alumni news and updates about the school
  • You can get invitations to and attend alumni events around the world
  • Come visit the campus, volunteer to speak with students, or within other areas of the school like our alumni and communications office.

She also shared that there are 4 easy easy ways to stay connected online with the SJII alumni program which include:

The alumni connect platform, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Posters with QR codes and links to the programs were provided in each tutor group room and also currently appear around campus to make the signup process easy.

A brief summary of each platform was shared with the seniors:

The SJI Connect platform – is your directory and professional networking platform. Most schools and colleges have these private networks/portals for their alumni communities. On the platform, you can search for clubs and groups, mentors,  internships, jobs and more. All alumni magazines and yearbooks are also available to view on the platform as well.

Regarding LinkedIn - Make sure you set up a LinkedIn page if you haven’t done so already done so, and make sure to tag the correct SJI International page as the school you attended. There are currently already over 1000 alums who have done so which makes your connection to the school page a valuable resource to you.

Facebook and Instagram are easy and fun. Follow SJII alumni on Facebook and Instagram for alumni and school news updates, event updates, program offerings and much more.

At the end of the presentation, Mrs Coulter thanked the seniors for listening in on the presentation, telling them to enjoy their cookies and to please take a moment to register on the SJI alumni connect platform and follow the SJII alumni community on all the social media platforms as well. She told them the alumni office looked forward to staying connected with the class of 2020 – and to welcoming them to the alumni community and wished them good luck on the balance of their term and exams.
